Since I only use this diamond pickaxe for these rarer ores, it is lasting forever. It lasts much longer than an iron pickaxe. You can guess which kind of axe you need by the time it takes to mine.

Gold pickaxes should be able to mine all the ores that iron pickaxes can. Yes, unenchanted Golden Axes are faster than Diamond Axes. Gold Pickaxes are faster than Diamond by around. Combining this with efficiency and unbreaking, this can lead to a really fast pickaxe. Coming in 3rd would be Iron, then Stone, then Wooden. A very effective way to find Diamonds is to branch mine.
